In China, inhabitants have always been a focus in the protection and development of historical blocks in both urban and rural areas. However, in many cases, the subjective initiative and development of inhabitants were not fully taken into consideration in the plans and policies of historic block regeneration. it is necessary to re-examine the supply-demand contradiction between the development of inhabitants and the allocation of spatial resources from the perspective of improving inhabitants’lives. The book, Theory, Method, and Planning Strategy of Inhabitant Social Integration in the Process of Historical Blocks’Renaissance, examines the supply-demand contradiction in the aspect of inhabitant social integration. This book proposes to incorporate the concept of social integration into the regeneration of historical blocks. It emphasizes the equity principle in class integration, economic integration, and behavioral integration to establish a comprehensive regeneration system of historical blocks. The key contribution of this book is its emphasis on the imbalances faced by inhabitants to meet their development willingness during the regeneration of historical blocks, offering an academic perspective on people-oriented values and inclusive planning.Chapters 1 and 2 of the book summarize the differences in conceptual understanding and practical measures to promote the development of inhabitants during the regeneration of historical blocks at home and abroad. Chapters 3 and 4 establish a research framework from five dimensions to analyze inhabitant social integration. Chapters 5 and 6 develop a spatial planning system for regenerating historical blocks. The book puts forward the spatial response to inhabitants’social integration in historic districts. These research should focus on elucidating the broader relationship between physical environment and social integration, thereby expanding the pathways for social development.
