According to the Code for Classification of Urban Land Use and Planning Standards of Development Land (GB 50137-2011) issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China in 2011, the land use classification of China is comprised of two sorts: the town and country land use classes and the urban development land use classes. Based on the different main function of land use, the classification adopted three-level system. The town and country land use classes system includes two categories, including development land and non-development land, as well as nine classes, and 14 sub-classes, while the urban development land use classes system includes eight categories, including residential land, administration and public services land, commercial and business facilities land, industrial, manufacturing land, logistics and warehouse land, road, street and transportation land, municipal utilities land, and green space and square land, as well as 35 classes, and 43 sub-classes. This code for classification is mainly used in the plan compilation, land statistics, and land management in urban comprehensive planning and regulatory planning.
