Aiming at promoting the low-carbon and sustainable development of the city, urban green development index for evaluating “green” urban performance is broadly established in lots of Chinese cities such as Tianjin, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. The index system normally involves in a wide range of aspects like carbon emission, energy consumption, public transit, economic development, and environmental quality, etc. Some research institutes are trying to rank the Chinese cities based on these indexes, and even the Central Government of China is considering using such green development indexes to evaluate the local governments’ performance.
