Private Plots

Private plots refer to small plots of land allocated to farmer households for personal needs. Because rural land ownership belongs to collective economic organizations in China, individual farmers only have the right to use these plots. After the reform and opening-up, the private plots in China have almost disappeared, replaced by family-contract farm plots.
