Transformation of Rural Resident to Urban Resident

It refers to a person’s identity change from rural resident to urban resident under the household registration system which has been in force since the 1950s in China. With the progress of opening up and urbanization, there have been an increasing number of appeals for the reform of the household registration system. On Jul. 30, 2014, the State Council unveiled the Guidelines on the Reform of China’s Household Registration System, which aims to set up a unified household registration system in both urban and rural areas.
