In China, the concept of “cultural industry” officially came into existence in the late 20th century. According to the Classification of Cultural Industries and Relevant Industries issued by the National Bureau of Statistics of China in 2012, it refers to the aggregation of all production activities that produce cultural and culture-related products to the mass and the society and concerns ten types of industries, including the services of media and press, publication, and distribution; services of broadcast, television, and film; services of arts, literature, and performing arts; services of cultural information communication; services of cultural creation and design; services of cultural recreation and amusement; production of arts and crafts; auxiliary production of cultural products; production of cultural goods; and production of dedicated devices for the production of cultural goods. The development of cultural industries became an important part of China’s national economy at the turn of the millennium and became one of the country’s national strategies of industrial development in 2009.
