Designated Town

As part of the administrative division of China including province, city, county, designated town, township, etc., designated town refers to the town designated by the provincial-level government such as the government of province, autonomous region, and municipality directly under the Central Government. It emerged in 1955 when the standard for identifying a designated town was announced.
