Liang-Chen Proposal

It refers to the Suggestions on the Location of Administrative Center of the Central People’s Government jointly put forward by Liang Sicheng and Chen Zhanxiang in 1950, which suggested building a new administrative center for the Central Government of China to the west of the Old City of Beijing, so as to protect the old city as a whole and promote the balanced development of the capital city. The proposal was not adopted due to some political reasons in spite of its brilliant thoughts on Beijing’s urban development.
