Brownfield refers to the abandoned and polluted lands for industrial, commercial, and other uses. It appeared firstly in the industrial cities of developed countries in the late 1950s and early 1960s, along with the shift of productions and the closing of factories as inevitable consequence of the socio-economic transition from industrialization to post-industrialization and the process of globalization.
