Slow Traffic

Contrast to rapid traffic, slow traffic, known also as “non-motorized traffic,” refers to all kinds of non-motor vehicle traffic, in particular walking and biking. Once being famous as the “kingdom of bicycles,” China saw the transformation of its traffic mode to being highly dependent on motor vehicles along with the process of rapid urbanization, which led to the serious problems of traffic jam, air and noise pollutions, and so on. This consequence finally evoked the consciousness of more and more Chinese cities to give priority to slow traffic development to promote a green transport which is friendly to both human and the environment.
