Voluntary Geographic Information System(VGIS)

2022-06-01 | UPSC

Goodchild, academician of the American Academy of Sciences, put forward the concept of Voluntary Geographic Information System(VGIS) in 2007, which means that effective geographic time information and its dissemination and sharing can be generated through the network. Specifically, VGIS spontaneously creates, assembles and disseminates geographic data voluntarily provided by individuals and geographic knowledge of personal spatial cognition through online collaboration. It is the product of the combination of big data technology and geographic information, which has led to the change of scientific research mode.

VGIS can be applied to the quantitative research of public health exercise data. Through the applications of both VGIS and GIS, the association between public behavior and urban built environment can be enhanced. This data enhancement design method breaks through the limitation of data and traditional research methods, and realizes data sharing, real state recording, dynamic tracking and grid analysis of public fitness behavior characteristics through intelligent devices. At the same time, it can be combined with information media and government open source data channels, establish a dynamic relationship between daily fitness behavior and community geospatial pattern, which can effectively explore the law of residents' health behavior in urban public space.
