2024-03-18 | Chinajsb

This city has a history of more than 2,000 years of pottery smelting, more than 1,000 years of official kilns, and more than 600 years of imperial kilns...... Ceramics have always been the "business card" of the city, and it is Jingdezhen, "The Capital of Porcelain" located in Jiangxi Province, China.

As one of the first batches of national historical and cultural cities, Jingdezhen retains the richest and most complete porcelain industry system and cultural relics, forming a unique porcelain appearance and porcelain rhyme. Since being selected as one of the first batches of urban renewal pilot cities in the country in 2021, Jingdezhen has strictly implemented the bottom-line requirements of urban renewal, adhered to the protection and development of development, strengthened the creative transformation of ceramic culture, and coordinated the promotion of the protection and renewal of different types of projects such as old urban areas, old factories and historical districts, and gradually formed a new pattern of protection and development of historical and cultural cities that release new demand, create new supply and give birth to new forms of business with culture.

1. Tao Xichuan: Striding to the world.

"Can I exchange that ceramic pot with you?" said Bo Shiman, an Australian stall owner, who took a fancy to Shao Hao's ceramic pot next door, and suggested bartering to Shao Hao.

Shao Haoreadily agreed to Bosman's proposal. "I'm very happy that my work can be appreciated by foreign friends. ”

This scene happened on the "Spring and Autumn Collection" ceramic art gathering project launched by Taoxichuan Cultural and Creative Block recently. In this assembly, domestic and foreign artists, students from major art academies, and ceramic craftsmen set up stalls in Taoxichuan, Jingdezhen.

Jingdezhen, as the only pilot city in the country for the renovation and utilization of old factories approved by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, introduced the concept of urban renewal, with the Jingdezhen Universe Porcelain Factory established in 1958 as the core area, and used the old factory buildings to transform the Taoxichuan Cultural and Creative Block.

In the process of renovation, 22 old factories were retained, the old walls and related tools for making porcelain were retained, and the kiln bricks were re-laid on the square. While preserving the history and culture of the factory, the raw material workshop and molding workshop of the old porcelain factory have been transformed into an experience place for porcelain production and traditional intangible cultural heritage crafts, and the kiln has also been transformed into an exhibition space for young entrepreneurs and porcelain artists, giving the abandoned factory a new vitality.

In Taoxichuan, 3,700 porcelain artists and designers from all over the world gathered. More than 60 art institutions and colleges around the world have carried out art exchange activities with Taoxichuan, allowing traditional and modern porcelain art to meet here and collide with new artistic sparks. Nowadays, it is overwhelmed by the bustling crowds every weekend, and porcelain artists and tourists from all over the world gather in Taoxichuan for porcelain, and Taoxichuan is gradually integrating international perspectives and becoming an important window for a new platform for foreign cultural exchanges.

2. Taoyangli: Write a new chapter in the historic district.

"Thirteen miles of Taoyang, spread over 100,000 families" depicts the prosperous scene of Taoyangli in Jingdezhen in the past. At the same time, while retaining the local unique Ming and Qing Dynasty traditional training houses, the ceramic cultural sites and more than 400 ancient houses around the area are repaired and utilized, and on the basis of retaining the original style, the interior is redivided into a bookstore, a homestay, a studio, etc. The quaint gray wall still stands steadily under the footsteps of urban renewal, showing the cultural connotation of the new era.

Nowadays, Taoyangli has been transformed into a historical and cultural district, where there are 1,000 years of ceramic cultural relics, 600 years of imperial kiln cultural relics and 100 years of modern ceramic industry relics. While preserving these sites, the local area has opened a window for visitors to communicate ancient and modern porcelain culture by setting up exhibition panels and on-site explanations of the production of relevant porcelain craftsmanship inheritors. In 2022, nearly 3 million domestic and foreign tourists came to Taoyangli Historical and Cultural District to experience the charm of Jingdezhen, the capital of porcelain, which won the title of "2022 National Night Cultural Tourism Consumption Cluster".
