Press Conference of Global Cities in the Vision of Belt and Road Initiative

On 10th November 2019, Press Conference of Global Cities in the Vision of Belt and Road Initiative was held in Beijing. The 2019 Annual Report on Global Cities in the Vision of Belt and Road Initiative was released, which screens 485 global cities from a new perspective of inclusive globalization and constructs an index for dynamic cities with global value and an index for “Belt and Road” Potential Cities.

Based on CAUPD’s years of research results, The 2019 Annual Report on Global Cities in the Vision of Belt and Road Initiative is the pioneer for international urban comparative research and index evaluation from the perspective of “One Belt and Road Initiative”.

Giving the shifting landscape of globalization, CAUPD has built a global dynamic index and the “Belt and Road” potential index for cities around the world based on assessment of their vitality and potential for global engagement and prosperity. It should be a ground-breaking scientific reference for international cross-regional cooperation.

The press conference was moderated by Mr. ZHU Ziyu, chief planner of CAUPD. Mr. SUN Anjun, president of Urban Planning Society of China (UPSC), and Mr. Nikolas Kontinakis, chief representative of Eurocities were invited to give the opening speech.

Mr. SUN mentioned that UPSC as one of the top five national planning organizations of the world, have been actively participating in providing international planning consulting service to countries included in the “Belt and Road Initiative”.

UPSC highly recognizes CAUPD’s years of research on “Belt and Road” Countries, and will continue providing trainings to planning professionals and technical standards services to countries along the “Belt and Road”. UPSC has cooperated with Word Bank, UN-Habitat, UNESCO, ISOCARP, Confucius Institute and so on to offer a number of professional planners with technical trainings from Central Asia, South Asia, Africa and some Latin American countries.

Mr. YANG Baojun, executive council member of UPSC, president of CAUPD, elaborated on a series of regional and urban researches that CAUPD has been conducting since the issuing of “Belt and Road Initiative”.


Mr. FANG Yu, president of the Shenzhen Branch of CAUPD, explained to the experts, audience and press the 2019 Annual Report on Global Cities in the Vision of Belt and Road Initiative in detail.

Mr. NI Pengfei, researcher of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Mr. ZHANG Zhenshan, director of UN Habitat China Office; Mr. Bernhard Muller, academician of German Academy of Engineering; Mr. Otthein Herzog, academician of German Academy of Engineering; and Ms. Edna Pasher, president of Israel Intelligence Institute also participated in the roundtable discussion later on.
